The Great Tail Trail!

A one-of-a-kind mermaid tail sculpture washed up at Bh2 Leisure at the start of April and is already making a splash with visitors. Located outside of Nando’s, the new addition is part of The Great Tail Trail - a free family-friendly trail across Bournemouth.

A one-of-a-kind mermaid tail sculpture has washed up here at  Bh2 Leisure. Located outside of Nando’s, the new addition is part of The Great Tail Trail - a free family-friendly trail across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, led by local children’s hospice, Julia’s House and leading producer of public art events, Wild in Art.

Visitors can tour the super-sized 45 structures and 43 Tiny Tails until Sunday 1st June, before they go on auction to raise vital funds for Julia’s House. Other popular locations along the coast and in towns, parks and open space include Alum Chine Beach, Westbourne Arcade, Boscombe Pier and Vitality Stadium.

Bryan Taylor, Centre Manager at Bh2 Leisure said, “Bh2 is delighted to support The Great Tail Trail – a wonderful initiative, which will bring the community together. We hope to welcome visitors from Bournemouth and beyond, to see the spectacles for themselves. It’s always great to support local charities, which will raise vital funds and awareness, highlight landmarks in the area, and hopefully, boost local businesses.”

Julia’s House is a children’s hospice charity based in Dorset, who cares for seriously ill children in the community, to which many need 24-hour care for their medical conditions. The funds raised will enable the charities expert nurses, carers and therapists to continue to deliver dedicated support and vital work at the hospice, in the community, and in family homes.

Local schools, nurseries, community and youth groups are also diving into the fun by creating designs for their very own Tiny Tail sculpture as part of a learning programme. 60 Tiny Tail sculptures, just like the giant mermaid tail sculptures but on a smaller scale, will form part of the main art trail.

So, swim down to us at to see and take pictures of its giant mermaid tail before it’s too late! Tag us in your photos @Bh2Leisure. Whilst here, enjoy a fun day or evening exploring everything on offer, from Shark Tail Sushi to Mr Mulligans, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
